March 16, 2022 by dietpillresource Leave a Comment

There is no best bedding for tortoise that works for everyone. What works well for one tortoise keeper, may not work for another cage setting. The bedding choice also adjust depend on your tortoise species, type of indoor setup, room humidity, and room temperature level. Coconut husk products are the common choice as tortoise bedding for many keepers. If you are considering to use coconut husk bedding in your tortoise cage, this post will help you make the right decision.

#1 What is coconut husk bedding

Coconut husk products are sold as small animal substrates, reptile substrates, soil amendments, and planting mediums. Depend on the manufactures, the exact texture and composition of coconut husk products can be different. However, it usually comes in two forms: coco coir, otherwise known as coco peat, and coco fiber. coconut coir is ground more finely in texture, while coconut fiber is usually a lot more course, with its longer fibers, wiry in texture.

#2 Coconut coir

Coconut coir bedding is one of the least irritating indoor bedding for tortoises. It is available in loose or compressed form. You can easy get the compressed coconut coir in the market, very light weight, and packages are easy to carry and move, but it will extend multiply in volume when soaked in warm water. When it is wet, it finely ground coconut substrate resembles coffee grounds. Coconut coir products are totally eco friendly, no negative impact on the environment. They are very popular, easy to find in stores. However, the disadvantages of coconut coir are that they are very dusty when dry, they may leave a layer of "shell dust" around your room. But when they are wet, they can smell like musty leaves and dirt. Moreover, it becomes soft and spongey when it wet even when you try to pack it tight, making it difficult for your tortoise to walk on.

#3 Coconut chips

Coconut chips are another natural product that popular indoor tortoise enclosure substrate choice as they are natural, nice looking, and easy to find. The advantage of coco chips is that they are good absorbent, can be wetted to increase humidity in the tortoise cage. Like coco coir, they are also light weight, easy to move and carry. Especially, slightly soiled chips can be washed with boiling water and reused. Cons of coco chips are they can be very dusty and dehydrating if kept dry. If it becomes dry, its moisture retention can be problematic to your tortoise, as it will try to absorb the moisture away from your tortoise’s skin. They are more difficult to wet than coco fiber and less absorbent.

What is the idea plants setup in a chameleon cage?

March 16, 2022 by dietpillresource Leave a Comment

Since chameleons are arboreal reptiles they need trees to climb, the best plants for chameleons also help to reduce stress and make your chameleon feel safe. There are varieties of plants for chameleons in the market and it is obvious that you should place more than one plant in your chameleon cage. Carefully understand plants setup not only for the good of the plants and the cage’s appearance but for your pet chameleon as well. This is why I have listed here four plants category and some necessaries elements to complete your chameleon’s cage.

#1 Type of plant

Choosing what type of plants to place in the chameleon cage is depends on your preference. But I would like to recommend that you should include 4 types of plant below on your plant setup: Hanging Plants: It is not necessary to have in a chameleon’s cage as your pets do not really need it. But a hanging plant will make the cage look great and mimic the natural environment of chameleon. It is hanged in the pet’s enclosure to serve as a hiding place. Chameleons will feel more covered with this plant. Climbers: You can create a jungle scenery by adding climbers on the pet’s enclosure but do not overdo. Foliage Plants: This is the main type of plant that should be place in a chameleon cage. It is better to give them more foliage for chameleons than the other types of plants. You should add more than two foliage plants in a cage. As mansion below, chameleon love to climb, so choose foliage plants with sturdy stem so your pets can be able to climb on. Filler Plants: The filler pant can be placed on the enclosure’s floor or sides and create the colorful environment for chameleons.

#2 Soil

Obviously, it is important to carefully consider the type of soil the plant requires. Organic soil will work well with plants used in a chameleon cage that prevents harmful chemicals. You also can easy find organic soil in the pet shop with affordable price.

#3 Lighting

Plants require sunlight to grow. When it comes to plants for chameleon cage, most of them require both direct and indirect lights. Heat lamps it the great light source but it may not be sufficient to support the plant’s need for lighting. Due to that, sunlight will still be needed.

If you cut the quick of the rabbit claws, it can hurt your pets and it might begin to bleed. If your rabbit has the bright colored of white, it is easy to identify the quick sich the vein will be red or pick. You just need to cut off the white part of the nail. If your rabbit has darker colored nails, you can use flashlight on the nails to easier identify the quick. Make the cut quickly and neatly with the least movement as possible.
